Step 1: Measure the Width

• Determine the total width of your curtain pole or track.

• Do not include the decorative ends (finials) if you have a pole.

• Avoid measuring the glass or window frame directly unless you are installing a brand new track; focus on measuring the hardware instead.

• If you haven't installed a pole yet, measure the width of the window and add 15 cm to 20 cm on each side so the open curtains will clear the glass and allow light in.

Step 2: Choose Your Length (Drop)

Decide where you want your curtains to end before taking measurements:

• Sill length: Measure to the top of the sill and subtract 1 cm to prevent dragging.

• Below the sill: Measure about 15 cm beyond the bottom of the windowsill.

• Floor length: Measure down to the floor and subtract 1 cm to ensure they hang straight without pooling.

Step 3: Measure the Drop from the Right Starting Point

The placement of your tape measure depends on the type of curtain heading:

• Eyelet curtains: Measure from the very top of the pole to your finish point.

• Pencil pleat / Pinch pleat on a pole: Measure from the eye (the small ring at the bottom of the curtain ring) to your finish point.

• Curtain tracks: Measure from the very top of the track.

• Tip: To ensure accurate measurements, take the drop in three locations (left, middle, and right) since floors and windowsills are rarely perfectly level. Use the shortest measurement.

• For proper fullness, it's recommended that the panels purchased measure 2-3 times the width of your window.

• Before purchasing curtains, make sure to accurately measure the size of the curtain rod and the window dimensions to guarantee that the curtains you buy will fit properly.
